在50-60年代以當年的流行音樂配合人聲吟唱的輕音樂樂團方式造成轟動的雷康尼夫，在當年擁有10張Top 10專輯及超過5億以上的專輯銷售佳績，至今無人可比。Ray Conniff原在Bunny Berigan及Bob Crisby’s Bobcats的樂團擔任伸縮喇叭手，1954年開始為Mitch Miller樂團負責編曲，並創作出多首排行金曲，之後便開始個人的音樂生涯。改編自法國作曲家莫里斯賈爾為電影「齊瓦哥醫生」的作品Somewhere My love登上流行音樂和輕音樂排行榜冠軍，66年為他贏得一座葛萊美獎，成為他的不朽經典代表作。
