佩圖克拉克1932年出生於英國威爾斯的Petula母親是女高音,自小就接受母親的教唱及音樂的薰陶,年僅七歲就展開其歌唱生涯,十七歲那年,她開始灌錄唱片,不過並不算非常成功。1959 年隻身前往巴黎去發展,並且跟一位法國唱片公司的公關經理結婚,開始用法文幫丈夫的唱片公司灌錄唱片,隨即開始走紅,除了走搖滾路線的Ya Ya Twist大為轟動,奪下了法國唱片大賞外,她在法國率先以法文唱紅的一首Chariot,更在後來被翻譯成英語的I Will Follow Him,讓小佩姬瑪琪(Little Peggy March)一炮而紅。

1951到1962年間,在英國,澳洲,加拿大以及歐洲各地都相當有知名度。Downtown的推出,第一次打進美國排行,在1965年的一月二十三日,奪得了美國的冠軍,蟬聯兩週,使她成為搖滾年代以來第一個奪得美國冠軍的英國女歌手。在Downtown之後佩屈拉克拉克又陸續唱紅了IKnow a Place,My Love,This Is My Song和Kiss Me Goodbye等許多暢銷歌曲,說她是一個全方位的演藝界長青樹,真是毫不為過的。
